On recording: Have you tried direct recording? To properly record an amp it should be cooking, at low volumes too much pick noise is coming through.

Good advice, thanks a lot. Yeh I suppose I should have recorded the electric guitar bits directly through my amp I've got a wire I use to record. I want to get a decent microphone but don't want to pay loads for it.

The thing about micing an amp is the speaker has to be "working"; or loud. Depending on your living arrangements that may not be practical, hence the pic noise. Direct recording avoids all that mess until you have the facilities to "cook" the amp. I don't have that flexibility so I direct record everything.
