Audience retention CPM

Hi. I know that audience retention affects CPM. But is it overall retention that affects your cpm and what ads you get or is it only the audience retention in the specific video that affects the ads for that video?

Audience Retention for the specific video.
Oh good. For some reason, I always thought it was based on the overall audience retention which is greatly dragged down from my old long-as-hell 10 minute videos. :/ My audience retention is doing much better now with shorter videos, so good to know my cpm will be better...

Maybe, but advertisers also target longer videos.

I believe that it is only based on active views. That being said, if these really old videos are still getting views and are only being viewed for 10% of the length, that will hurt you. However, if these videos, which received poor audience retention, are now not getting views anymore, then it won't hurt you. Only new views are factored in. It also doesn't determine the type of ad, just how high-paying that ad is.

Well that's not good because my old long 10 minute videos are still very popular even though people only watch like 1 minute of it. :/

My audience retention didn't used to be very high but recently in the last few weeks it has been gaining a lot so thats good.
