Are youtube guitar tutorials of songs illegal?

I've Got It
Hi guys.

Just wondering if making guitar tutorials for famous songs and uploading them to youtube is illegal? I would also plan on monetizing them. So for example, if I made a tutorial on how to play Lego House by Ed Sheeran.

Thank you :)

You can't monetize them because you don't have the rights to the songs. However if you're a FAM member, then you can monetize tutorial videos of those songs that can be found in the FAM library. :)

So I would have to be with a network like fullscreen? Also which camera do you use? You're so good at guitar wow haha

Yes, as far as I know only Fullscreen and Maker have licenses with UMPG. By the way, I'm using a Canon EOS 700D (T5i Rebel). Thanks for the compliment haha. :)

Ah it's pretty expensive I see. I've played guitar since I was 6 (now 15) but I rarely practice as I find it boring now and I don't know why aah.

Oh I see, well that's too bad you feel that way. :/ Believe me though, there was time when I wanted to just give up / quit because - just like you - I found practicing boring and didn't really have much fun but then I got better and nowdays there's not even a day that goes by without me playing for atleast 1 or 2 hours haha. :P

That's awesome. Hopefully I'll start lessons again soon and try and get back into it like you did!

The same thing happened to me. When I was in my first year of playing guitar (I was like 8 or 9), I was being taught the most random songs that didn't even sound right. It was like musical gibberish XD then one day, I learnt a song that had a key and I loved playing the guitar again and didn't stop playing since then! Well, now I don't practice as much as you but I play when I can and always enjoy it :D

Yeah I really didn't like guitar lessons, but enjoyed playing songs off the internet. Hopefully I'll start playing again :)
