Hi All,

I'd be interested to find out how long is a reasonable time to be successful at YouTubing. I know it obviously differs on the niche topics that you're making videos for but what would be good average milestones to work towards.

Criteria I'm looking at are:
  • Number of subscribers
  • Channel views
It would also be interesting to find out how people are doing.. ie how long have you been YouTubing, how many subscribers did you get in the first couple of months, what did you find really worked well for you, what was the turning point etc.
Thanks!
To start with me, I've been on YouTube since 2006 but I have only started to use it and edit videos since last year. I have 31 subscribers and 120k views - most of these views are a generated by a handful of videos.

all depends! look at psy 1 song to make millions, how animals eat 1 video ! then you have othere people that just get famious bit by bit Wreckless Eating has never had a viral video but he still gets insane views and subs. Best way to look at youtube... it's a lottery you post to enter if you hit jackpot your going to enjoy the benefits. And before some one says well money doesn't make you happy... im going to walk up to you and say you just won $1,000,000 and when your smiling and screaming i will ask again... does money make you happy?

My friend who is now a succesfull youtubers (100 000 subscribers) started her channel about 2 years ago.
So we can talk about 1,2 or 3 years of hard work and commitment I guess.

It depends on your output to be succesful.
Create good quality content.
Set up your channel clean and appealing. ( For How-To look at the Strategies / Technique Advice Forum and look for my thread.)

Let the community here review your brandings / intros etc., maybe this will build up a small fanbase.

Does it matter if I'm posting videos every week or every other week? Do I lose momentum if I make a great video but leave it for weeks before the next?

every week will be better. Will keep subs more engaged and with more content being pushed faster more better chances of being found. If your stuff is catchy they will watch your previous ideos for more views! if they are impressed you will gain more subs

Thanks for all your comments guys... I've uploaded a video yesterday, hope you can have some time to view it.. let me know if it's entertaining or not!
