I've Got It
Alright, so anyone who doesn't know what "Fullmetal Alchemist" is has not lived (ESPECIALLY if you haven't seen "Brotherhood," which, in my opinion, is superior). This is probably my second favorite show of all time (behind Doctor Who), so one day, I thought, "What if Fullmetal Alchemist was a movie?" So I started writing.

Let's back up a bit.

Ever since I was four, I wanted to start making movies. It was always in two genres: Fantasy or Sci-Fi. I was thinking of ideas for ten years until I learned how to write a script, and when I learned, I didn't have the motivation to keep writing.

Now, one year later, I am up to 38 pages on one of my scripts. I want my channel to grow, so I'm trying everything to reach a larger audience (besides p**n). This script is an on-screen adaption of "Fullmetal Alchemist" and "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood." So far, it's turning out really good. My friends have read it, and they say it's good, and they haven't even watched the series!

My only question is: Should I do it? Should I make a full length movie on YouTube?

That's up to you guys, so leave your answer down below, and I hope you guys give me some good insight.

(Also, I honestly don't have anyone for cast, crew, or animators, so if someone could help out with that, then . . . )

Forums like this could be great for searching for the people you need to make this happen. I think you should follow your dreams, if you want to make a feature length movie then do it! YouTube is a great platform for it. I hope you post more about this, I hope to create something similar one day:)

Yeah go for it! I mean why not, right? If you don't like it you can always make it private or delete it, and if you do like it then that would be awesome, so if you have the time and passion to dedicate to it then there's pretty much nothing to lose :)

My problem is that I don't have any friends that can actually, well . . . act.

Lol, well you can either be a true auteur and direct them into the characters, or connect with a local theatre group - or just throw a pebble into the internet and you'll hit an actor :) Concentrate on getting a good script first though

Do it! I sub to a channel called ErikProductions. He is a teenager/auteur. Most of his videos are very short, but he uploaded a really creative 30-minute videos this weekend inspired by the game Outlast. I didn't expect to sit through the whole thing because I have the attention span of a flea, but I ended up loving every second of it. There is definitely an audience out there for quality films.

I could defiantly see VFX youtubers like CorridorDigital doing something like that. (I don't know if they watch full metal though)

Anyways, I think you should do it. Why not? You're not going to lose much other than your time, and you'll love making it since it's your passion. I think it would be cool to see a human remake.
I'm not sure how much experience you have with film making, but if this is your first feature it might not be that great. It really depends on how much experience you have with film making. If you have very little, this project will help you grow and teach you many lessons.

You have to ask yourself how long it will take you to write the script, and then create the film. A year? Two years? In that time, your channel is not going to be growing much, because you need to constantly release content to get your watch time up (sadly it's all about money now). If you release a video every 6 months, your channel won't grow. Now granted, if the film is good, it could go viral and you might gain a lot of subs. The thing is, after that, are you going to make another one? I have found that a lot of people subscribe to these animators, like mincraft, but then start leaving after 3 months because they aren't releasing any more animations. Duh, it takes months and months of hard work, so of course they aren't going to have any content any time soon.

You may be better off releasing a 10 page script, (10-12 minute) film, instead on a more regular basis, than you will with a feature film.

My channel is a gaming channel but I really want to do animation mostly. However, it takes 3-4 months to create each film, and my channel suffers because of it. So I'm basically doing gameplay weekly and in my spare time making my films. Not sure if its wise, but I guess I'll test it out.

Edit: I'm also working on 3 feature length animated films (think lord of the rings style), which may take forever but something I want to do. I just have to figure out how to do it without my channel suffering if possible.

Actually, another hard part I was thinking about would be to keep putting out at least 5 videos a week as well as making the film AND going to school. So much for having free time.

Check out this guy:
andrewmfilms

He releases a film every 4 months, and that seems to be working for him. I guess if it is epic enough, that will work just fine.
