Working on a Comedy Dance Song...

I make Movies like I make Friends.
Hi there... My friend Spruta (Pronounced Sprootuh) and I are working on a dance song that correlates with the dance he invented called the Sprutes (Sproots). Its really a great idea, but I have very little knowledge of how to go about making a music track, and I am wondering if anyone has any advice. Do I write lyrics and hope I can make a track that fits, or find/make the music first and mold the lyrics around it?

I am thinking that this song will sound a little like "Shots" or "Jump Around", with constant chanting of "SPRUTES SPRUTES SPRUTES!" or "DO THE SPRUTES MAN, DO THE SPRUTES!"

Anyway I need any help I can get.

I need to preface the rest of this by saying this - you dont just one day decide "im gonna start writing music", it takes years of practice and study. I have studied music theory since i was 8 (im currently 17) and ive been actually producing music since i was 10. If youre seriously going to get into producing, expect to write music for a good 4 years before actually getting to a respectable music quality.

That aside, to first start making a music track, you need either music writing software, music writing hardware, or both. Generally youll want to start with software because hardware will start pricing easily in the quadruple digits. When looking for software to use, DO NOT TORRENT. I cant stress this enough, because i know it seems great to get a $300 program for free, but it all starts to suck whenever you find out you just downloaded a worm and now youre losing everything on your computer. Now the software you purchase will depend strictly on the style of music your working on producing. If youre serious about getting into this, ill be happy to show you a couple of programs that most people like and some of the generalities of producing, but a lot of it is just practice. Hours upon hours of practice. Forget free time, because thats going to be spent practicing XD

Hope this helped a bit :)

To be honest, this is most-likely a one-time song for comedic purposes only. I am really not musically interested or inclined. I just think that the ideas for this song my friend and I have came up with so far are really pretty funny and I want to see it happen.

then youre probably just going to want to find a professional to do the song for you. Even though its supposed to be funny, you still want it to sound good. Id be happy to give it a shot for you if you want, but even if its not me, find someone who has producing experience to help you out :)
