I've been analyzing Youtube Gaming channels for around a year and a half now, I'm just going to give you opinions are certain types and how I feel about them.
News and Reviews
I can only tolerate having one gaming news channel because they are usually posting the same announcements and I don't like getting spammed in my sub box. I used to be subscribed to IGN and gamespot but I was getting the same info over and over. I just stuck to IGN even though they p**s me off a lot.
- IGN
- Gamespot
- TotalBiscuit
Walkthrough
I will usually not subscribe to walkthrough channel because the only real reason I am checking them out is to compare their styles to mine and to see how I can improve myself. Additionally, if I want to see how I game is before I buy it. Also walkthrough channels will spam your channel (ie: part 1, part 10, part 55).
- TheRadBrad
- LevelUpDudeTV (HAH!)
- 508208975 different no commentary walkthroughs (I don't class these as walkthroughs)
Funny Let's Play (Single Person)
I feel like this is the strongest category and easiest one to subscribe to because even if someone isn't into to gaming they can still find reactions and jokes a reason to subscribe. This is usually someone that plays a game, makes jokes, cuts up clips and edits extensively.
- PewDiePie
- Jacksepticeye
- Markiplier
Funny Let's Play (Multiple People)
I am totally not into this style because I feel like it's funny if you are one of the people. These channels are the ones where a couple random people play together, stuff happens and laugh constantly sometimes put random sound effects into it. I feel like it doesn't take that much effort because of the editing style.
- VanossGaming
- GameGrumps (Same style but they pull it off really well, with multiple camera angles and different game types)
Community Channel (Best Kills, Trolling, etc.)
This the channel that gets sent random videos of something specific and is allowed to post and monetize other people's content because the user signs an agreement before hand. People try to send content to these channels for a chance that their video becomes recognized in hopes of increasing their subscribers on their channel.
- BestCodComedy
- videogames
- GTA5Videos
Pro Gamers
This type of channel is usually focused on competitive multiplayer games (ex: CoD, LoL, Dota 2, CS). These guys show skilled gameplay footage, tutorials on how to up your game and extremely edited montages.
- OpTicNaDe
- PuR3Pamaj
- PurgeGamers
Theory Crafters
This type of channel is usually focused on a specific game and the person running it knows every single mechanic in the game, which makes it easier for him/her to talk about it. I'm not subscribed to any theory crafters but I do respect them, it's just too much information to me to learn and I like playing multiple games because I lose interest easily.
The Random Gamer
This type of channel isn't focused on anything, its just someone running their channel the way they want to. One day he/she might vlog, the next day a gaming walkthrough, the next day a tutorial.
Each of the types of channels have their own challenges depending on the type of person you are. I currently have a walkthrough channel but I am not happy with my results and the style of the videos, I feel like my personality is more suited toward a Funny Let's Play channel.
I hope this helps you decide what type of channel you are looking for, feel free to contact me if you need more information.
