What are the YouTube copyright rules for pictures?

So I recently saw the Battlefield 1 (bf5) trailer, and I have screenshot with a character I really want to use in a video. But am I allowed to do this? Will my channel get a copyright strike from using a screenshot from this trailer, even though channels are posting the actual trailer and thats okay?

I just want to check with someone who knows about this sort of thing

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

James

No you wouldnt. You need a minimum of 15 seconds of copyrighted content to even file a strike.

This is not even a little bit true.

If you don't have the proper rights or permissions to post something, any amount could get filed against you.

That said, if it's just a still image, you're not likely to be caught or punished, but that hardly means that you're allowed to do so.

will you be commenting upon, criticizing or parodying the photo? then you fall under fair use so HOORAY! if not its possible to get a strike lol

Why does it seem that more and more of these questions devolve to not "Is this legal?", but rather to: "Can I get away with this without being tagged for copyright violation?" Just the way I am seeing things, perhaps; but this is not and should not be the way creation works on YouTube.

What point are you trying to make? That we shouldn't be limited by copyright in what content we want to create? I'm unsure what you are trying to get at.

No!

I am saying that I am seeing more and more people refusing to be limited by copyright, and asking how much copyrighted content they can use without being caught!

And I am asking why they are doing that instead of creating their own unique content to post to YouTube, rather than stealing other people's work, and trying to make money from it that they are not entitled to!

I hope that is a little bit clearer!

Oh OK right man I got ya but certain media such as games media has to use copyrighted content for instances such as game critique, you can't have a video of a game you are critisising and not show gameplay, certain content has to use copyrighted material and aslong as you fall into fair use then there is no problem with using copyrighted content. Besides what I got from this post is he's not just trying his luck he wants to know what the rules are for using it not everyone understands fair use although they really should and definitely need to read up on it.[DOUBLEPOST=1462712088,1462711835][/DOUBLEPOST]But I do understand your point
