Thoughts On Cursing?

I don't mind most channels swearing....but I DO mind, when it's a big youtuber who has a lot of influence on the younger kids. I've been personally affected by this, here's an example. One of my oldest sons friends came up to our car window, not knowing I was in front, and said "HI d*ck!" She's 10, my son was six. I rolled down the window, and I said, "what did you just say??" she looked down, really embarrassed said "I'm sorry...I watch too much Smosh" and she was upset. ( I don't know off hand if it was ACTUALLY Smosh, because I don't watch them and don't know if they swear)...but granted she still probably got the word from Youtube. Anyway, I honestly believe that videos with swearing/vulgar, should be rated 18+ just like it is for television. I don't swear on my channel, I do sometimes swear in real life, but I couldn't even swear in this thread without using an asterisk.

I curse a lot less than I used to because honestly, I started feeling stupid cursing for cursing sake. I would say PG-13 is the level I aim for, and sometimes that does include a "s**t" or a "f**k." But now it more depends on the characters and situation.

Also, I have gradually become a lot more interested in wordplay and cursing often nullifies it.

I agree. I can't even bring myself to curse in front of old people, or on a forum such as this. Even though it's allowed, I would think I'd look even more unprofessional if all I did was curse every other word.

Personally I don't mind people cursing in their videos (otherwise I'd never watch Shane Dawson! lol), however I personally don't curse much at all (in real life or online). The only time you'll really hear me cursing is if I'm really, really angry (and that generally won't happen when I'm shooting a video).

I don't really swear in real life, so I don't in my videos. I do believe that there are two different types of swearing. One is when you are swearing because of something, like as a reaction. This can totally be overdone, I've seen many comedians do it. But to me, it's not as offensive as the second type, which is swearing AT someone, calling them names. I find that to be more offensive. That's not as okay with me.

Bottom line, I don't mind if people swear a bit in their videos, just don't swear AT me.

Another good point! :D

My parents used to curse more than almost anyone I know... so I will blame them for my un-ladylike mouth i suppose.
I guess I should start bleeping them out. I remember as a kid I thought it was funny when people swear, so I doubt your younger viewers will get that offended lol.

I absolutely agree with what alot of you are saying. I think you should be yourself on your channel and if you swear so be it. I wouldnt want people liking who they thought i was as opposed to who i really and you can usually tell if someones being fake.

True, I don't hate on anyone. However, I can't help but find it annoying when someone is trying to hard to be something they aren't. It's just so...I dunno, unappealing? Either way, it's best to be yourself.
