Alright guys so incase you have heard about it all the hoopla over Halo 4 and its posting rules, they are true. So let me break it down and what you can and can not do.
First of all. Microsoft has made it illegal to record and use their game footage for YouTube.
However if you are an experienced YouTuber then you know that is has always been illegal to record gameplay, we have just been getting away with it because the big gaming companies do not have the time or money to sit down and flag the millions of videos that get posted. So we kinda get away with breaking the law.
However if a company does complain to YouTube that we have posted their content and they want it down, YouTube will remove the video, and you may suffer a strike on your channel.
But please understand there are two ways you can get away from not getting a strike, and being able to post Halo 4.
Under the copyright laws, you are allowed to use work of any kind for NON-PROFIT reasons.
Example: You are at a family BBQ and you are playing a Linkin Park CD over your stereo. Thats completely OK.
Example: You are holding a music event at your house, the event is just you blasting Linkin Park over your amazing speakers, and you are charging $10 a person to get in. Thats NOT ok.
So if you have understood what I have said, you can post just about anything as long you dont put advertisements over it. Which means do not enable the video for monetization.
Be careful when choosing what videos to monetize, because there are monetization features that will put ads on your channel, and if that video is your featured video, then it can be held accountable for a strike.
The other way to post videos WITH making money off it and be protected from Copyright is being partnered with a large network relevant to your channel.
Everyone thinks that the reason to get partnered is so that you can have that cool banner over your channel or that awesome channel button over your videos, wrong.
Being partnered with a network will give you protection to post things.
Example: I am partnered with Machinima, therefore I can post just about any game I feel like, including Halo 4 and other microsoft games and put advertisements over them. Because my network has purchased the rights to them.
Be careful with smaller networks, they may not have all the rights to the games. So far to my knowlege only the following channels can post halo 4 with ads.
Machinima
MLG
IGN
and MLG being the only channel who can live stream it.
If you are unpartnered, here are the actual rules for halo.
1. You can post Halo 4 multiplayer gameplay, without advertisements.
Thats it. If you post the Campain Halo 4, strike.
If you post multiplayer with ads, strike.
Its happening fast and videos are getting pulled. And note, that if your channel gets a strike, you will never be abled to get partnered on that channel or make money off it at all.
I hope this helps I can try to answer any questions that you all have.
