Some newbie questions about monetization

I posted here before and I apologize if my questions have been asked and/or answered before.

So I've uploaded about 40 covers to YT and each and every one of them has had a copyright claim...which means I can't monetize them right? As in only the copyright holder can make money from the ads? How does that work?

However, if I am not mistaken you can still monetize if you have a thousand subscribers?

If you do not want to receive a copyright claim for your covers, you can always obtain a license. Google: "license cover song".
