Shoutout Sundays?!?!?!

I've Got It
Okay so lately on all my favourite youtubers comment section I see people spam stuff about Shoutout Sundays? Is it bad to participate in them? I had a argument with my friends and they kept saying that Shoutout Sundays are good but they never told me how? Some people say they bring dead subscribers? Is that true? Please explain.

I'm not a fan of shoutout sundays but maybe out of like the 100 people who will come maybe 10 of them will actually enjoy so in the end it's still exposure. Just remember that for a big number of dead subs there will be a small percentage of subs who will actually enjoy your content :)

I consider these shoutout things sub4sub minus the committment of subscribing to the other guy, or bribing for potential audience.
I received a message some time ago (from a Minecraft channel, that has nothing to deal with my type of videos) that was about like:
"Hey great videos, I am running a shoutout serie, to be part of it you have to subscribe to my channel, be active on my videos and you might appear in the next shout out"
So basically I need to pretend to be interested in his stuff to get the chance for a thing that doesn't guarantee me active subscribers, I see it more as a way to earn potential subs.

Shoutouts should be made out of genuine appreciation, not through an arbitrary system like that.

Very bad in my opinion, actually working on a video of how they are bad for your channel. Yeah don't join them ;D[DOUBLEPOST=1468620222,1468620200][/DOUBLEPOST]

Oh hey its you! Nice to see you in the forum :)

I participated (or got a shoutout) in one of them on a fairly popular small channel a few months ago. I got a big bump in views on one video, and tons and tons of, "YouTuber X sent me! Hope you subscribe back!" types of comments, and then my viewership went right back to where it was. I don't really think they're all that helpful if they're just generic shoutouts meant to get people who hope to get shouted out to subscribe to them. And I'm not really sure the results in more views overall for them, either.

Yay shoutout Sunday from a unknown channel shouting out other random channels. Surely will boost up my subscribers!!! And if I do get any, they'll probably be people who aren't interested in my content anyways. YAY. No, just don't do it unless you get shouted out by a HUGE CHANNEL cause you had an AMAZING video then just don't ever do a shoutout Sunday please.

I'm starting to being really p****d off by those people who act like this: everyone who does those "shotout series" are people who treats subs just like numbers and it's totally wrong. The problem is that this phenomenon is rising up, more than normal sub4subs. I received a lot of those comments on my videos (and when you don't receive many comments like me it gets really sad sometimes).
Please don't join those competitions because are just baits for naive guys who really hope for a bit more of visibility.

I don't like Shoutout Sunday if they involve "hey subscribe to so-and-so for a chance to be in my shoutout sunday video!" ...you know, stuff with a catch.

However, if the youtuber is showing genuine appreciate for channels, then I think it's awesome. It's just rare to see that, if ever.
