Should I do this or is this a scam?

Courtney Candice

I Love YTtalk
I got this email from this site asking my permission to use my video, should I do it or does this seem like a scam or something? Of course I’m going to ask them I if I will still have rights to my video and if they will give me credit letting people know that I’m the owner of that content.

Dear Kourtney Candice,

My name is Una and I am the content manager at Fashion Potluck. I’m writing to you to offer to share your How to deal with negativity? video as a guest blogger onto our platform. All the details are following below.

Fashion Potluck is the only women-driven social media platform in the Western world. The platform enables women to create content about a variety of topics from fashion and travel to looks, reviews and lifestyle tips. We pride ourselves for creating a community with worldwide female contributors who share their content on a daily basis.
As we constantly seek to grow our community and present a rich and varied meaningful content to women, we are always on the lookout for new talents who could contribute with their knowledge on a new topic.

Fashion Potluckcovers a variety of topics, however, we have still not touched upon the field of self-care. While doing research, we encountered your profile and found it truly inspirational and a great source of education for women on our platform.

This said, we would love to invite you to share your knowledge about self-care on Fashion Potluck because you will help raise awareness about this important topic amongst young women.

Joining Fashion Potluck is completely free and accessible by each woman. In return, we will amplify your content across our platforms and make sure that each young woman from our database of over our 30.000 monthly visitors sees your article.

We would like to share your opinion with young women across our international community.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me!

Hoping to hear from you soon,

Una Omeragic

I would do some research on the company. If it's a legitimate company it could be a good chance for you to reach a wider audience.

It looks good to me. Its a new website and it looks to be going somewhere.
I cant see it harming you by allowing them to show your vid on their page / and/or subscribing to their content.
Just dont give your credit card/bank details etc

I agree with EVO, I don't see anything wrong if a website wants to share your videos (usually they don't ask for permission) so this one seems to be doing right. Only problem is if they don't link your youtube channel when they post a video.

I don't see a problem if someone wants to share your videos for free unless they ask you to SIGN a contract or PAY. If not,,, more views can't really harm. They look small so you should definitely take the opportunity before they start adding bigger channels there.

I checked the site and there is some engagements on the site which is a plus...I will also think its a new up coming site there is nothing scammy about the site ...in my opinion you will only benefit if you give it a try

Go for it but with some restrictions.

  • Ask the original video to be shared / linked as-is not edited or be cut by any means.
  • Declare your age and if neccesary ask your parents approval,
there are also legal issues some times kind of release form.
  • Correct them that Kourtney is actually Courtney :p
  • Ask if you will have to write or answer anything as a guest blogger.
Correct them again, you are a (v)logger :D
If it is going to be an e.g. skype mini interview to you, ask to approve the final text before going live.
  • Inform them that whatever you say in your video is your property and it is not part of the deal.
They cannot isolate parts and put them in random or convenient order below your video as opinions.
  • And final (again) ask your parents. It is the safest choise I think.
We all would be glad to see you grow in Youtube but this is not an angel's world. Take care :)
EDIT: checking the site, videos in fact go under products. Maybe I got it wrong.
But if that is the case, that you will have to (b)log for products, do not afraid to ask for money.

Good luck!

The email looks pretty spammy tbh. I mean look how many times they repeated their brand name as a clickable link (I removed the clickable links from this post) and so the cynic in me says they've worded the email to look like they're offering you an opportunity but the bottom line is they're spamming their website.

My advice would be proceed with caution. Don't sign away rights to your content.

You'd be giving them free content. But It's not clear what YOU get from this.

In return, we will amplify your content across our platforms and make sure that each young woman from our database of over our 30.000 monthly visitors sees your article.

How does that benefit you? Ask them do they share ad revenue. Ask them can you put links to your YT channel in your articles? Can you embed your videos? etc
