Safety Tips For Collaborations/Meet Ups.
  • Bring a friend or two and/or a family member/adult along with you.
  • If you are under 18 and/or live with your parents tell your parents everything to do with the meet up, where you will be, who is going with you, when you will be back and call them during the meet up regularly or bring them along with you if you can.
  • Give another family member or friend details of where you plan on going to meet up and tell them who you are meeting and when to expect you back. As many details about the meet up as possible.
  • Always stick to your original travel arrangements and never be persuaded to take a lift or go somewhere else regardless of weather conditions and other circumstances even if the person seems friendly.
  • Meet in a public place during the day if you can and remain in places where there are plenty of people at all times, dont bring them home or go to their home.
  • Dont let anyone persuade you into doing something you feel uncomfortable doing.
  • If they suggest you to meet somewhere more away from public places such as at their own home avoid meeting them at all.
  • If at any point of the meet up you feel uncomfortable for any reason head back home.
  • Make sure you take your mobile/cell phone with you and that it has credit on to call people.
  • Never give them too much information about yourself such as your home address, house number, place of work, school/college or any other information that could allow someone to easily find out where you live and where you go regularly.
  • Before meeting try and get to know the person you are meeting as much as you can by checking their social pages out, it is hard to find out too much about someone online but try where you can.
  • If you use Skype etc then getting to know them on there before meeting would help.
  • If you meet up regularly keep meeting them until you know more about who they are before giving out further details about yourself.
  • Ensure you know how to get in touch with the police, friends and family in case of an emergency.
  • If a collaboration goes okay but you didn't really feel comfortable with the person or you felt that something wasn't quite right, then don't give any more information about yourself to the person, stop all communication with them and be sure to discuss it with your parents or an adult friend you can trust.
These tips are to help you stay safe when meeting up for the first time.
