Good day YT team,

I've been on the fence about which "home game" I should pick for my Youtube channel. I've been reading on some tips and tricks for starting a Youtube gaming channel, and a lot people are saying to stick to one game for a while. Originally I was going to go with something with a following and longevity like Minecraft, but it's a game I'm not super familiar with and I'm not sure if consumers are going to want to watch me stumble my way around a game when there are hundreds of 'pro' Minecraft Youtubers out there.

Now I'm heavily leaning towards playing Binding of Isaac as it's a game I'm good at and also has longevity like most rogue-like games. But obviously has a smaller following thus less interest from the masses.

Or, I could choose a recently popular game that just came out (for example, Animal Crossing) and take advantage of the hype surrounding that game.

Anyways, let me know your thoughts

Hi, I started with a game in 2014, World of Tanks, game is doing very well even now but I slowed down with it 3 years later, renamed the channel & switched to videography content, I just couldn't sit on a chair for so long while saturating the body with adrenaline, bad combo.
You can also pick a certain genre of games, like ships, tanks, shooters, strategy, racing etc... in general I also think that it's better to be a specialist at one thing, but if it's stressful maybe better to spread out a bit but still stay withing a genre

Thanks for the advice! I don't think sticking to one game will super duper stressful as long as you're having fun, but I do agree that sticking to one game/genre is the right way to go, which is why the topic's decision is so important :)

I can tell you that from my own experience - don't really stick to MMO RPG. I've been recording NosTale and Metin2 for some time. 10minutes lenght video = over 10h of playing. You need to make progress with your character so video won't be boring. It's really hard if you want to do more than 5 videos haha. Think about it. Ofc. if you enjoy your game i can't say stop but think twice about MMORPG's. Also you should avoid fable games - people won't really watch noname commentaries if they can watch top Tubers. I'm recording rare little games at this moment, Arcade Games and some indie. I also avoid recording Big titles like GTA V, RDR2 etc. Good luck man! Keep it up! You can also send me your channel!

I've been kicking this idea around to for a home game. I can see the point of an MMO RPG as mentioned above and makes sense. I am going to be focusing on sim games since I spend the most time with them.

I just started playing Minecraft less than 6 months ago but find it fun. I think you would be surprised to see who would turn in to see a noob making cringe mistakes. The comments might not be nice but its view retention. Lol.

Hi there. There's some good advice in this thread. If you're strictly going for gaming channel, I might recommend choosing whatever game(s) you can be the most insightful about and really offer something unique. I love the way the Angry Video Game Nerd integrates comedy and vlogging along with gameplay and featuring of his favorite games. If you want to lock yourself down with one game just make sure you really like it. I personally started off as a variety streamer and that works well for me because I love trying different games when they come out (AC is a great option like you said it's trending and they hype can be fun to participate in).

Hope that helps :-D Have fun. :)

Thanks for the reply!

While I was thinking about the first game to play I noticed that it is a fine line between what you enjoy playing, and what gets you some views and subs. I decided to go with a game that I can indeed have fun with at least to start, that way I can get the lay of the land which is actually making content haha. Once I'm super duper pro, I can take advantage of the hype games and sell out for views and subs.

The game also needs to be able to provide a variety of content. Sure I could film hours and hours of Black Desert Online but who wants to really watch me fumble with item inventory for that long. I think thats the downside to most MMORPGs unless most of the videos will be howtos.

A game with a social jump in and out would be good especially when having friends pop in or YT collabs.

I heard the same thing from many people, that when you start you need to stick to one certain genre. All big youtubers did the same thing when they started.
I’m really enjoying to play MK11 online, mb I should stick to it, after I finish Doom Eternal series, bc I don’t wanna drop it.

It seems a little risky to look for profit from Mk11. I can hardly find ads on mk11 videos.
