Okay what would you do?

SilentRich

I Love YTtalk
I have a one hour video ready for upload in 720p, now I'm not bothered about its upload time or file size. But would you cut it into smaller video's?

I mean there are no real transitions points for me to do so and I can pretty much upload videos as long as I want them to be. But I'm interested in what you (the community) would do in this situation.

I usually break my episodes up into 10-15 minute segments. I feel like that is easier to watch than a 1 hour straight video.

So you would make 4 15 minute videos.........its a good idea and would make uploading easier.

It wouldn't be too hard for me to chop it up either.

Sorry haha I am just interested in a good mentality over video sizes, one hour can be a bit too big for some youtubers.

I don't know how things differ between the types of channels, but I personally almost never click on a video that goes over 10 min, if we're getting into 30 min or even an HOUR? There's not a chance in hell.

Depends on your viewer base, if you have a lot of fans then they may enjoy a 1 hour video, but as you have 7 I would suggest chopping it up into 15mins. That way there is a greater chance people will watch it, also you have more footage for your upload schedule. This way I can spread it out over my uploads :)

EDIT* I would make it less than 10mins but it would take months to upload with my twice a week schedule

Yeah I'd break it up. You would probably get a better audience retention doing it that way as well. I know for me, I like to watch a bunch of different videos a day, so I'd rather watch a 10-15 min (or even 20) long video, rather than a hour long video.

Have you uploaded a video of that length before? Check your analytics and see what your retention time is on a video of that length. If your viewers have watched 1hr of video from you before then go for it, if they've tuned in for 5-10 minutes, then you might want to cut it up.

I clicked on a 37 minute video once and I started to skip parts after some time because it is simply too long, but that is just my opinion :).

The nearest I have is a 42minute video that I made as an achievement guide I didn't plan to make it 42 minutes but hey I had too :P

I'm thinking either 4 videos of 15 or 6 of 10 and making it into a playlist.........which idea would be better? Well for me anyway lol.

6 of 10 probably :)
