Normal Growth Rate of Youtube Channel?

Hi,

I have always been curious about the question I am about to ask. Is it harder to grow your youtube channel in the beginning? I only have around 72 subscribers and have been at this for about a month now. I upload a video on average every 48 hours. It's really slow to get the ball rolling it seems.

So, I was wondering, do things pick up in speed eventually? Like....is there a certain point you hit and there is like a "breaking point" or something? For instance, if you reach 1k subscribers......are you going to start getting subscribers quicker? Kinda like a snowball effect?

I keep hoping things will pick up but sometimes I wonder. I even made my first thumbnail for a video today and that video is doing worse than any other video. I kept reading custom thumbnails get you more traffic, but so far that seems like the opposite for me. I am having fun with my youtube channel in any case. But I have always wondered if things get easier as your channel ages with more content etc? Hope this is ok to ask here :) This place seems like an amazing place btw!

Things get a bit faster when you hit 100 but once you hit 1k thats when you pretty much get at least a subscriber every 48 hours.

Thanks for the reply. Hmmm....lol....1 subscriber every 48 hours? I guess that is pretty good. I bet once you hit 10k subscribers that's when things get moving a little quicker huh? I am pretty excited about making more videos and growing my channel. It really can be a lot of fun.

It's gonna be amazing once you start getting on average 10 subscribers per day. That will be amazing :) So do you think youtube has a bit of a snowball effect once your channel starts growing?

I've had a channel since 2008, and I just now hit 760 subscribers. So hitting 100 did not speed things up at all, what seemed to speed things up is making good videos with some sort of a theme. I know I get subs for my dog videos and also my GoPro videos based on returning viewers when new videos are uploaded.

But yeah, I'm not a sub person, I have 2.2 million views with under 1k subs, I go on a video by video basis for the most part.

Thanks. Hmm....that is interesting. Congrats on sooo many views! I just figured the more subs and views you get, the more momentum builds etc.

Of course I think Youtube is a snowball effect! My theory is that people are less likely to subscribe to a channel with like 70 subscribers and i don't know why but I think it makes sense because if I step back and look at it I am only subscribed to maybe 5-ish channels under 1k subs and that's because I am there friend and we talk and I know some of them in real life. So my conclusion is that most viewers don't feel as comfortable subscribing to a small channel vs a big channel.

Truth. I know when I sub somebody I watch a video or two and look at their sub count and figure man if they have x,xxx subs they must constantly put out good content, so I sub.

LOL. I never thought about that guys. I guess a lot of viewers might automatically "assume" your channel kinda sucks because you dont have many subscribers. But....I am actually interested in knowing if there is a literal snowball effect. Maybe youtube ranks your videos higher once your view count goes up?

In my opinion theres no such thing as ''normal'' rate for it. Everyones growing at their own phase. But one thing forsure, expectations will lead to disappointments and disappointments will lead to giving up. So just keep that in mind.

Good point :) Yea....sometimes I get really excited when I get a few new subscribers. Then it gets quiet for a day or something. LOL. I guess the key is to have fun and just be pretty steady with uploading. I don't want to create any expectations.
