Is Making a variety of content bad for channel growth?

Basically as the question states in the title.

I've noticed, that when I release four of similar content videos (in my case the same game) in a row, each one after the other will have more views. Effectively helping grow my channel.

However, when I release a video of a different game completely irrelevant to what I was previously producing, I practically get an extreme drop in views. Not only that, the next few videos I release will also have a drop in views, effectively starting my growth process all over again?

Is it bad to make a variety of content on your channel? I was expecting it to help as you'd get more viewers from different groups of interest.

What's your thoughts?

When I first started my channel, it was a mess. I had all sorts of videos over different genres / no identity.
But having done that I knew which ones were of interest to me and more importantly for growth were of more interest to the viewers.
I rebranded / dedicated to one genre and numbers went up accordingly.

I personally feel like that yes a mixture of games being played on your channel would help increase the traffic coming into your channel, you just need to manage when you upload these videos. I am yet to start a second series on my channel because I don't know what game to do but I am confident a variety of game choice will attract more viewers.

I don't know many people who enjoy watching the same person play the same game over and over again. Some channels built a great channel from this alone such as TDM but even he realised he can't just stick with Minecraft for the rest of his YouTube career so now if you look at his channel, the variety of videos is good to see and knowing I won't see Minecraft every time I click on his channel is a relief.

Yes, definitely. The more focused channels grow faster, because subscribers can count on seeing the same type of content in every video. I myself have a ton of different types of content on my channel, and I know it's slowed me down a bit in terms of viewer and subscriber growth, but that's okay for me, since my goals on the platform aren't necessarily surrounding constant growth.

I would stick to one thing if you want to grow fast. When you get bigger branch out into other things. You could also do like me. I have a 2nd channel with friends where I post variety content.

Do you think I should start a fresh channel based on one niche or just continue to post on my existing channel and hold off on other content? My channel currently is majority one type of content

It probably does make our lives harder uploading different types of content but at the same time YouTube is there to express your creativity and do what excites you.

They way i've decided to go at it for the next 6 months is to have 2 consistent series on my channel plus bonus videos that dont fit into the series. So that way even though its not all the same content, the channel is still consistent and people have an idea of what to expect.

Maybe thats a way around it?

Guess we'll see how it works out.

Good luck!
