This is a very simple tutorial which will show you how to add text over your videos and also use fades to fade the text in and out. Please refer to the video below if you get stuck as the video is very easy to follow.

Firstly have your video on the timeline, right click the panel to the left and click Insert Video Track. Now click on Media Generators and the text to the left and then proceed to click click and drag the Default Text into your new video track. You can then play around with fonts, sizes and even add a drop shadow as shown in the video tutorial. When done click the small close icon on the Video Media Generators window.

When done you can drag and click the right or left side of the clip to make the text appear for longer throughout your video.

You can use track motion to position your text where you want it:

If you click that and then drag the media around by clicking the inner circle you can position it easily, when done click the small close icon on the track motion window.

Clicking and dragging the top left/right corner allows you to create a fade in for the text and a fade out.

When done play your video and test until you are satisfied. As a note, if you want to re-edit the text and make changes to the text shown and font size etc you can click the small green icon at the top right of the text media clip.

Thanks for reading/watching and I hope this helps you out :)
