How much work do you put into each video?

F*CKINGENIOUS

Movie freaks unite!
My style thus far has been very improvisational, where I don't write anything I just go in front of the camera and say whatever's on my mind. This works for me and I like the naturalness that comes across but I know I want to take things to the next level and put more thought and effort into my videos while finding a way to balance that with the improve.
This question is not a gauge for how I plan to start doing my videos but rather just a natural curiosity of how everyone tends to work through a video. Do you write scripts? Spend time coming up with jokes? How many hours per video would you say you put into each project?

It's a vlog by vlog thing for me and I'd get burnt out if I did it any other way. It's like sometimes I get these epic involved ideas and I need other people for them and I incorporate my own music into them and write scripts and can spend anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks getting everything in place and finished. Those are EXTREMELY satisfying. And yet sometimes it's almost sad when I then just think of something, hit record and start talking, and all these little magical moments get in there that I couldn't have planned and I almost think the vlog is funnier than the involved sketch was and I'm like "sheesh, i''m almost funnier when I don't try" lol but I just love being able to do both.

I feel like if I script things or plan it out too much it will feel fake. Fake is one thing that has no place in my videos.
I usually spend 1-2 hours on my videos not including the time it takes to upload to youtube.

Yeah I have a pet peeve about coming off as fake in my videos as well. I'm already extreamly shy to begin with so to get in front of the camera and be myself has taken some time for me to be comfortable with, and now I am but the few times I've gone on to try to be an entertainer, or put on a show just hasn't felt right. Yet I feel my videos could benefit from a small amount of scripting so I'm going to give it try.

The closest I think I will come to scripting is listing and making notes.

Hey man, if you would please allow me to make some constructive criticism. When you are on camera try to be loud and ecstatic! Even if it feels dumb its entertaining to watch. Also, keep your lines short and snappy anything over 2 or 3 minutes and I get bored. Lots of different clips shot together are great because a new scene catches the users attention.

Anyways, I put around 2-6 hours of time into a video depending on what it is. If I'm just doing a vlog type of thing I'm writing a script so that I can make the video funny, quick, and entertaining to the viewer. Try a script one time and see if it doesn't make it so much better!
