Hey guys so this is my personal experience on how I was able to get 40k+ views on my video as well as over 2 million views over facebook on different pages. My video was posted on 12 different facebook channels. And if you type in "50 cheeseburgers homeless" in google the first few pages are about my video.
So the very first video I posted was about me giving free Uber rides to people and getting their reactions. The first thing I did was test how well the video did with my subscribers and when I received positive feedback I went and sent a quick message to all the big facebook pages like Unilad, Liftable, United states of awesome, and etc. I told them a little bit about the video and why I did it! I didn't get any responses BUT...
HERE IS THE SECRET - this is the part no one wants to share! There is websites out there that will pay for you to send in your videos. They pay you for the video to be posted on their website AND they will broker the video out to other websites as well. If those websites are interested they will pay you for the videos also.
So a website by the name of Newsflare contacted me and said they were interested and would pay me. The Uber video didn't do so well but it got me in the door with them on good terms and so I went and uploaded another video where me and my wife gave out burgers and drinks to the homeless. Newsflare loved it and they sent it 3 other websites, and that started a domino affect. That video went viral and I was even on my local news. The whole week Facebook had my videos playing on multiple pages.
I understand some people would be against giving rights to websites to use your videos but for small channels with a small fan base that is the way to go. I've been able to go from 100 - 1800 subscribers within a year and over 70k views.
Things to look for when making a viral video
1) Keep it short! Websites don't want to run your whole 10 minute vlog just for the 2 minutes of content that actually matters. Keep it short and to the point! ( I would say 3 minutes maximum)
2) Keep it controversial/intense/emotional. This was something I learned very quickly. You don't see a video of someone going on a bike ride going viral. But someone jumping off of cliffs on a bike would be very popular. My cheeseburger video drew a lot of attention because it was either emotional for people watching or it made them upset thinking I was bragging about what I did. My local News channel ran the story as if I was bragging about my accomplishment. But hey, any exposure is good exposure. So it didn't bother me.
3) Check your feedback from fans before you go out and try to advertise the video. Most of these pages/channels/websites won't give you more than one chance to impress them. So use that one chance wisely.
