How do YT Channels that are aimed toward kids make ad revenue?

I've recently come across a news article where they mentioned that because of an FTC ruling personalized ads will be removed from videos that are aimed toward children. Seeing how this is not exactly my forte I wanted to ask if this is true. And if so, how do those channels manage to get by without ads? I mean, where is the money supposed to come from if not from ads?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, it true. Personalized ads are no longer served on those channels. They still can be monetized, but the ads will not be targeted ones = probably make less $

Exactly, no more high-earning Target Ads based on the actual viewer.
YouTube is working on growing their Contextual Ads sales force and implementation.
Until that gets ramped up, earnings are tough.
Here's mine. The views are consistent, earnings are not.
