I have recently had my YouTube channel terminated and I have no idea why. I have been told that this is due to my receiving four copyright strikes, but I have no idea why I have received these strikes.
My channel, which is titled "Not Inconceivable", presents music videos for classic tracks by various artists. I do not make any money from it, because I do not own the copyright to the music used or to most of the footage used. All of the videos I have published are only able to be published because the copyright owner has allowed them to be. YouTube does not give me the means to publish a video unless the copyright owner has allowed their material to be used. About a quarter of the music videos I would like to publish are not published, because the copyright owner does not allow them to be. Sometimes videos which have been published for a while are then blocked or removed by the copyright owner, and when this happens I am usually sent an email with a title which begins "[Copyright claim] Your video has been blocked:" followed by the title of my video, and this email begins as follows:
"Hi Not Inconceivable,
A copyright owner using Content ID has claimed some material in your video.
As a result, your video has been blocked, and can no longer be played on YouTube.
This is not a copyright strike. This claim does not affect your account status."
Sometimes a video which has been blocked in this way later becomes unblocked and is made public again, and I am not notified of this; I only find out about it by accidentally stumbling upon the video.
I am not supposed to receive copyright strikes for anything I have done. However, there have been two occasions prior to this channel termination when I have received a copyright strike. It was worrying, as I was told that if I received two more strikes within three months then my channel would be terminated, and there was nothing I could do. I did make an appeal to YouTube about it, but I got no reply. Thankfully I did not receive any more strikes within the three month period.
What has now happened is that I have received four copyright strikes all at once from the same person and this caused my channel to be instantly terminated without any warning. I have also been told that my other channels are "subject to termination" and I am not even allowed to start a new channel! My other channels are currently still active. None of them have many videos published on them, but I use one of them a lot for posting comments beneath videos and it would be very bad if this one were to be terminated. I recently attempted to start a new channel, and it seems that I may be able to do this, but it apparently requires me have a new phone number and will not accept the one I have already used for starting my existing channels.
I was told that these four strikes were given to me because nineteen of my videos should not have been published, because according to YouTube, I had not been given permission to publish them by this copyright owner: Warner Bros. Entertainment. This is not true at all. On uploading each one, before it was published, I received the following message: "Copyright-protected content found. The owner allows the content to be used on YouTube." Furthermore, it is only when this permission is given that YouTube provides the means for me to publish the video, so it is not possible for me to publish a video which does not have this permission.
I have no problem with videos being taken down if that is what the copyright owner wants. What I want is for my channel to be restored. It has 685 videos and 6.07K subscribers and represents a huge amount of work.
I have tried appealing, and I received a rejection in which YouTube make statements which do not apply to my appeal or my case at all. They imply that I am asking for a video to be put back up which has been taken down, and they imply that my channel has not been terminated. No phone number has been provided for me to speak to someone about this issue.
I have written to the copyright owner asking if they can help, and have not received any reply.
