In my own opinion canva seems very simple to use for beginners but useful too.

I absolutely love gimp... I mean I'm horrible with it but for anyone looking to get into some more advanced editing without paying for photoshop, gimp is for you.

Personally I just use canva for thumbnails due to its simplicity.
