Doing a Vlog on a family member with a Terminal Illness.

Loving YTtalk
hey Everybody!

Yesterday was a pretty crappy day for not only me but my entire family.
We found out that my Father in Law has Lung Cancer...
I decided to do a video when we got home from the doctor and ranted for about 13 minutes or so.
I was angry because this was something that could have been avoided if my Father in Law had simply quit smoking.
Now on the bright side this was the best way to allow family and friends live very far away (several hundred miles) to keep up to date with what is going on.

But here is my question
Should I continue doing videos on what's going on with my family?
It's not like a have a huge subscriber base but i'm just not sure.
This isn't the sort of thing I planed on doing it just happened>
It did feel good to get my frustrations out of what was going on and what my family now has to deal with.

I would like some input.

Resepctfully

I am sorry to hear that Mark, science is making huge progress against cancer.
Best wishes for the best results for your father's in law situation.

I do not know about vlogging, I just want to point in something else.
Allow me to disagree about " simply quit smoking."
It is not "that" simple. Although it is difficult it can be done.
But. Believe me it is more than difficult.
There is a so complex situation that people sometimes cannot escape.
I am one of those people myself. You wouldn't believe the fight
in my body and in my mind on this issue of smoking.
It is hard and even worse, every time I lose.
Don't be angry on him, don't judge just support him.

Once again I am sorry for hearing, and wishing the best results.

Trust me I more then anyone
Know that it is difficult
But I also have known my Father in Law since I was 21
When the nicotine patch came out the family convinced him to give up smoking
Or so we thought.
My father in law took the patch and keep on smoking 2-3 packs of cigarettes a day.
Needless to say he was rushed to the hospital.
Now this isn't my first experience with Cancer its more like my 6th.
Now I'm not at all saying that quitting smoking isn't easy but it can be done.
In my Father in law's case however, he simply never wanted to quit.

To me a vlog covers all aspects of ones life. All the negatives and the positives.

Similar to you, my Mother-In-Law passed away a little while ago and she was still smoking until the very end. All the family blamed the smoking for her early death but she enjoyed smoking and never wanted to quit.
And just a few days ago, my aunt passed away in her sleep. She was an unwell person in general stemmed from drink/drugs/rock and roll in her earlier life. She wouldnt have changed her past though.

So vlog away. Maybe it will help you in the greiving process. It may also help a viewer or 2 that are in the same boat as you.

Evo:

That actually makes a lot of sense!
Thanks

Moved to the scripts / ideas / planning forum.

I'm sorry to hear about your Father in law's illness. I think it should be ok to vlog it. My only advice would be to only say things that you would be comfortable him or the rest of your family hearing if they were face to face with you.

That's great advice
Yesterday I was so angry when we got the news
I ranted more at the camera then anything.
But now myself I can do like a video montage kind of thing
Things the family would feel are important.

I think that it could be helpful and give some insight on this situation that not many people may have, but just know that *some* people might see it as exploiting the situation. I can see that it's not, I think it could be helpful, but just keep an open mind in case it does happen. People who have been in this situation might still be grieving and be mad and take it out on you. It's the internet. Just look out. You should do it though.

I'm really sorry to hear about your father in laws experience. While I've never experienced a family member suffering from cancer, I have had friends that have and know that it is a difficult experience. As for the vlogging, do it. Vlog your heart out. Vlogging doesn't always have to be about happy experiences. It can be the sad as well. As long as it helps you cope, it's something to try. Good luck.
