I think the answer to why your video did not earn much revenue is in the cpm. as far as youtube allowing ad block its probably mostly because they feel its in the best intrest of the platform overall to allow it.

also if the video grew very quickly sometimes the anylitics are delayed a bit meaning not all the revenue might be reported in your anylitics yet. sometimes youtube will verify things before they send it to your anylitics. also video's that grow very quickly also tend to have lower cpm. things like average view duration as well as demographics and other things like that can play a part in cpm.
