Why do people add you as a contact on Youtube?

This is such a mystery to me! Ever since I began, I'll generally get one or two "contact notifications" per day on my channel. These people are complete strangers, and never actually contact me, yet somehow find my channel and decide to add me as a contact. WHY?? Does anyone have any clues toward the de-mystification of this phenomenon?
 
I'm not sure, I was planning a contact party, as I have tons of contacts and know none of them...
 
I never really understood the whole point of having "friend contacts" on YouTube.... It's a useless feature which should be removed. If you like someone you Sub to them not add them as a contact >_>
 
Some people do it so when they add you, maybe 90% of people will go look at the person's channel and potentially some of them would like the content and sub lol.
I say hii back to them and if they reply then i might go look at their channel :)
