I see "SEO" Talked about a lot, but what exactly is it? Sorry for my ignoranceViews have always been what translated into subscribers for me. Why not use them as a metric instead?
And the good news is that you can somewhat control views through your SEO game. Check out some of the tutorial subforums on here for info on how to do that.

Start typing into the youtube search bar and look at the auto fill results. Those are search terms waiting to be fought for.

I think it depends on what you want to achieve on YouTube. Everyone has different goals that they want to reach so make your own goals.
