Curious question, how long did it take you to get a bit of a following? What was your Tactics? I am struggling to figure out how to share my videos without spamming them like randomly on a YT video "Check my video out" or using YT Bots, I want a genuine following, cause I do youtube for fun and to socialise, it just seems REALLY difficult. Any tips would be great, btw I ain't doin YT for money if anyone feels I may seem desperate, just pure fun and wanna share! :-D

I wouldn't call myself a big youtuber, but I'd say I had some success :)
For me, my first 'big' video, I spent about 150 hours on one video, and I've noticed the more time and effort spent on something, to make something as perfect and as brilliant as you can will reep the rewards in the end... and tbh I only shared the video tothe usual FB, Twitter, Tumblr, and a couple other sites, it spread on it's own

But what you saying about spamming, well the best way, and I do it all the time is to get involved in the YouTube community

Watch + comment on other peoples content, not just popular content, maybe YouTubers who are just starting out soon, yeah of course not all will even reply, some will reply, and then some may even check out your channel, watch some videos, and stick around :).
Because that's what you want isnt it, for people to watch yours, comment and even sub. Well to get that, you need to give in return :)

Also sharing on your Facebooks, twitter, Tumblr and even creating a blog will all help. It's not easy and takes a lot of hard work, but the more work and effort you put in the more you will get out of it :)[DOUBLEPOST=1346336519,1346336503][/DOUBLEPOST]Hope that helps a wee bit! it has done for me

I started making DS related videos and Pokemon pearl videos/how to's when it was popular back in late 2008 - early 2009 so I got a huge kick stater to my audience. Took about 5 months to get around 500 ACTIVE subscribers. Back then it was super easy to get active subscribers and it just kept building and building every video I made.
Tips would be catch on to a popular topic if your videos can be applicable to that type of content. Not saying every video but make one every now and then it should help create a audience.
Don't spam your channel around video comments or inbox using address book, makes you lose respect around youtube if you spam every video just trying to get views.

Miss the old days of youtube :(

I just made the videos and spent a lot of time advertising! Eventually everyone just started watching my videos regularly.

I have about 700 subscribers, last year I had less than a hundred. Seriously all you have to do is make your videos the best you can possibly make them. Great videos get views. It's as simple as that. "Good" videos may get views, but probably won't. "Great" videos, however, get views. Just make a bunch of really great videos and the views and subs will come. There's other little things you can do like advertise yourself, optimize your tags, etc. But in the end, what matters most is great content. Don't half a** it.
