The games industry has a super deep and super interesting history. There's plenty of books out there to choose from, many of which are very good at delving into this history.
One fantastic example is 'The Nostalgia Nerd's Retro Tech - Computers, Consoles & Games'. This delightful hardback combines eye-catching graphics and reams upon reams of information on retro gaming tech, spanning the years 1972 and 2001.
I was lucky enough to pick this up at my local 'The Works' for £6, but even if you find it for the full retail price (£15) I would absolutely recommend it.
