A tent-pole video is basically relating to a trending topic or event such as a movie, culture, music, and much more. These can double or triple your views if many people are searching for your topic on YouTube. My views have doubled going to around a thousand views a day, might not seem a lot, but for a small YouTuber like me it is I did a tutorial on the Cup Song which was in the movie Pitch Perfect, and I've gained many subscribers since then. Even if its not something you usually do, its one step closer to getting your videos seen! Harlem Shake might help you in gaining these views, but theres a lot out there that its hard to be seen. Agreed here - I try to follow social media news pretty closely, and make my content relevant to whatever's out there.

That said, it's important to balance it with content that people would want to see in six months too. It's rough when people won't look at your older videos.
