I have seen people do covers where it looks like they are singing but the music sounds so clear as if it was prerecord. Not knocking them at all just wondering how they do it. I know others sing while the camera is on but I do want to try something more like the first if it truly is what I think it is. I am guessing it is not big Hollywood produced since it seems to be a thing a lot of non pros do.

Usually they pre-record the song using software such as Pro Tool's although other software is available for free ;) lip sync in the video, and then if they are really good sync the video with the audio. I have done it in the past while at college, but its too much hassle, and I prefer live recordings anyway it sounds more authentic, to me at least. The trick is you either have to be really good at lip syncing, or have the necessary software and skill set to sync it post production, most are good at neither.

I moved this to the video editing and recording forum. ^_^

Most likely the audio is recorded in an optimal setting (such as a closet), and synced with the video. To make it look more natural, they probably sing for the video, too, but then mute the original video's audio. I do this all the time with outdoor videos. If I actually used the audio from outside, you'd ear dogs barking, people talking, wind blowing, car horns beeping lol. xD

Covers are usually recorded with a condenser microphone and a pop filter, the program doesn't make a difference but usually Adobe Audition is a solid bet. The singer will usually set their camera to record at the same time they start recording in their audio editor. Later after post they export their audio out of audition as a wav file (this is important because wav files are a lossless format, using a mp3 file will decrease your audio's quality!) and then they bring it into their video editor, where it only should take a minute to line it up with the camera's audio track, mute the camera's track and then render the video
