Normally the point of lighting is to make something brighter than other things, like your face. If the video is dark as a whole, you can't now make a part brighter, by my understanding, unless you wanted to spend a lot of time doing personalized editing.

Yes you can, find your brighten slider, button, whatever your software calls it and slowly add some brightness. Then use a little contrast to counteract a washed out look. Try to use this as a last resort.
