Never. I think it would alienate your viewer base and cause people to flock to other channels with similar content. YouTube started out as a free to watch (with the occasional ads). People have accepted that, but people won't accept having to pay out of their own pocket to watch some YouTuber.
 
youtube frees up its audience to watch the videos, youtube revenue sharing only ad revenue with its cretors, if not wrong about 45% for youtube and 55% for creators, your income will increase with the number of good ads in your video.

So it would be better to just keep creating content and monetize them instead?
