Yeah I know, but I wasn't really trying to get known for the whole year, I wasn't trying to make friends, get noticed, etc... I was just sitting there waiting for people to magically find me. Pretty stupid of me isn't it?
That used to be possible. But since Google bought YouTube, we're all numbers. It's not a stupid thought at all, to think that quality content would get noticed. Now YouTube is a social network, so the obligations of the producer just multiplied a hundred fold. The more you interact with similar producers, and think of everyone that watches your content as a fellow filmmaker and not a fan or audience, the more you will succeed on YouTube, a place for friends...

Yep, what that guy said.

Hmnn. I agree - but only to an extent.
For example, I subscribe to people who I want to watch their future videos, not to get ideas for my own. When I subscribe I think "I enjoyed that. I want to subscribe so that I can enjoy future content" and there is no other reason for me to subscribe. So, at least for me, YouTube isn't a place for friends, but a place where I can find content that I can watch and enjoy - much like a Television that I can interact with. :)

Not sure that was his point. What he means is that like, content creators used to get noticed by youtube itself and the community of viewers because creating content was more rare and viewers dominated the site. But now that we have so many more content creators, you're not as likely to get noticed if you don't network. And I think he's very right about that, you HAVE to network or you will just sit there never moving an inch.

60,000 Video Uploads Daily require curation. Google has dumped the responsibility of finding content on the viewer. It's like every TV show is on at once, but you only have one Television to watch them through-- how will you know what's AMC versus what's PublicAccess? The point that you are missing, is that you will not likely find the content that you would subscribe to with a "what will be was meant to be" state of mind, because you have at least five subscriptions that YouTube crams down your throat when you log in. Or if you're not logged in you can enjoy the mouthful of million dollar bills from the rise of VeVo channels or whatever has been pushed up to the featured page by corporate money.

No, I did get that - and that was the part I agreed with :)
The point I was making is that there are still fans out there. There are still people that subscribe because they like the content they see.
Whether they see that content may be down to luck, but that's how it works now I guess.
