OBS Stream Recording vs XPlit's

I've used both and streamed with both and I think I've noticed something I want to confirm. XSplit tends to just record the stream itself, I guess because that's the output you choose and you then tell XSplit to save that. OBS, on the other hand, seems to just record with whatever settings you have for recording while also streaming with whatever settings you have for that. Is this actually the case? I'm guessing yes, because I now have a 50 gb, 2.5 hour stream of Shadow of the Colossus that is at 1080p, while having it's audio channels under one file, but split.


Actually, to answer my own question, I remember from way back when I first streamed with OBS, it does do recording as a completely separate function, and that makes me like it even more. Of course, you have to be careful. Right now, I'm streaming console stuff, so I can use my gpu for encoding, which works perfectly. Not too keen on trying pc games...
