My lav mic doesn't work with my Vixia HF R72

Hello. New to the forum and this is my first post. Any help is appreciated.

I have a lav mic that works great with my iPhone, but I can't get the level high enough on my camcorder. I have a cheap, battery powered mic that sounds great with the Vixia, but I would really like to get the lav mic up and running with this camera.

I am using the appropriate TRRS to TRS adaptor, and I am still having no luck.

Any ideas what I may be doing wrong, if anything?
 
Which model Lav mic is it?

You can only use powered microphones on most video and Digital cameras as far as I'm aware.
 
I have a similar one (Boya) and it is very good. Just remember to turn the battery switch on when you use it ;)

The long cord is very handy when doing "speak to the camera" shots.
