Okay, I learned that we can perform certain songs' cover and monetize them...

but what about the music we use as base? Should we also play It or an original one is allowed?

Anybody has experiences with It? Only a cappellas?

On certain songs, yes you are allowed to monetize them yourself, though you won't get all the money that is generated from the ads as some will still go to the copyright holder.

BUT to monetize your covers you need to do everything yourself. Meaning you can't use somebody else's backing track or anything.

So you need to play the piano yourself or play guitar yourself etc.

I think that's how it works :)

All my covers are me completely re-recording the track to which I then have to revenue share with the original writer if it is claimed. I'd say stay safe and do it that way because then you know that you own the recording rights.
