Monetization for dummies!

ChrisW

I Love YTtalk
So I'm a complete noob when it comes to all this stuff.

I've "monetized" my videos with the option youtube gives you...but nothings happening with that.

How many views does it take for a video to start appearing on the analytics "total estimated earnings" thingy?

I have only enabled the ads that appear at the bottom of the screen, not the ones that appear before the video - is that a common thing to do?

1) YouTube analytics is always about 3 days delayed

2) If your video is "in review" still then it isn't yet monetized, once approved and it says "monetized" THEN it can start earning. You can check on this page: http://www.youtube.com/my_videos

3) Any revenue what so ever (even cents) should show up on Ad Performance and Estimated Earnings.

4) It is most common to enable all ad types as this increases revenue. Text based ads don't pay very well. True view and "in stream" ads generally are the largest earners (both amount per ad and how frequently they are shown)

Lastly if approached for partnership, do NOT rush into anything. Read my signature for a bit more info, and feel free to ask.

Thanks for the info :)
perhaps I should enable those ads as well.
I have a couple of videos on 40,000 views but nothing at all in ad performance and estimated earnings...is that normal?
I might have to pick your brain if any partners come along (a few messaged me before but I just ignored them)

It does not matter how many views it has. It will take around 3 days to appear in analytics from the time it is accepted for monetization.

its been monitized for ages...months. i just didn't know if that was enough views to make anything appear in the ad performance or not? thanks :)

It may still be in review. Put your cursor over the monetize emblem of that video on the video manager page. Often videos never get approved. It is a major perk to being with a network. They get approved instantly.

its definitely approved - the $ sign is in white, its in grey when its still under review.
I just assumed that 40,000 views wasn't enough?
