Fellow YouTubers,

We all know how much it can cost to make the best posible videos. I found a pretty good deal on buying an older iMac. I place the specs below. But, the major question is....is it still possible to edit video's? I'm not a guy that uses a lot of tracks. Video, audio, music and voice-over. If rendering takes a couple of hours, i dont care. The most important thing is, can i edit the video smoothly. Please help me out here!

You might be able to get away with it if you're using something like FCPX that is well optimised for Mac OS but with it only having a dual core processor at 2.0GHz and only 4 GB of RAM it won't be very smooth at all. I wouldn't really recommend it, especially if you want to do 1080p or 4K.

How much is it? Those specs are pretty garbage. You can likely build a lower end PC for the same price, and it'll be 100x better.

Thanks for your help!! Thats really too bad. I'm using now filmhit on a windows laptop at 1.66GHZ en only 2GB of memmory. Rendering goes very well, the output is good. But fastforward while editing is a real nightmare. I can handle a bit of lag...i really hoped this mac could give a temporary solution. Thanks again!

That just isn't a lot of RAM at all, I struggle with 16GB when using Premiere Pro. Same opinion as before really.

Exactly. According to filmhit the minimum is 8GB of RAM and a 512 Videocard. I keep that as goal. Thanks again!

This is very old setup and it will be usable only for 480p max 720p video editing and rendering. It will take hours for short clips to edit and render and it wouldn't be a nice experience. With that being said, the price is bargain, but if you are willing to give 100-200 Euro more, you can build an usable configuration for better experience

Thanks! That is exactly how I feel right now when i am editing. Soooo frustrating. So, no. This will not be a good solution. Currently i am looking at a macbook (2011) with 16gb or ram and 5122 videocard. Even when I cant use FCP or Filmhit. iMovie is always a solution. LOL.

No friend. Don’t get it. Everyone is talking about the computer speed but a 10year old machine will fail sometime soon and the repair would not be worth it. The lowest spec 2017 pc would be fine if you are making simple videos. But something older with power, especially macs should be 2-3 years old no more. They can’t be serviced by apple after 5 years but a top spec model 3 years ago would be quite useful and cheaper as many Mac heads are picky about stuff, there won’t be much fight over something used
