I did the same thing and I'm very happy with my decision. I figured people would rather connect with a person more than a brand. Plus, I'm not locked into doing any certain content. I've started out very niche and plan to cover much broader topics over time. Not to mention, I may mix in some of the other fun things I do like whitewater kayaking. :)

Even if you had 1m subs you could just post a "name change" vid and be fine. no big deal

Definitely, cuz you would obviously have a fan base, which means people care, which means a lot of them would see you saying what you would be changing to.

It won't matter at all. Even if you had several thousand subs most people still find videos through searches and suggestions than visiting pages anyway
