Hi all. I have a question. I am going to do a trailer for my YouTube channel and wanted to use a 20 second part of a movie as my intro. Can i Do this???

You can do anything you want. The question is whether or not you're gonna get copyright claimed/striked. And the answer to that isn't so simple. What's the context behind you using you the movie clip? Is it for parody?

I wanted to take a quick 10-second to 20 second clip off of the movie Weird Science and use it to make my YouTube trailer video. How would I get in contact with the writers of the movie Weird Science?

It is not a matter of copyright. A trailer is showing channels content and capabilities and the channel owner,s view and opinion.

Definetelly a no. But it would be definetelly a yes if you just need the soundtrack to "dress" your pictures! :)
