yes but the program I use (toom boom studio) doesn't allow me to fix the ratio even though it has a custom export function just for YouTube

I recommend Camtasia Studio. If you're looking for simple editing and direct uploading to YouTube. That is, if the program you're using right now doesn't enable you to change the aspect ratio of your videos.
