It was first done by 'bots' and they generated fake views, so the process of generating fake views is called botting. Its very logical.

Surely differentiating the term used for fake views generated by humans and fake views done by scripts is logical.

Nope, because there is little way to tell the difference. Either way they do the same thing and produce 'fake views'.
