How do I add a animated lower third using sony vegas?

i bought an animated lower third but when I place it on my video it blocks out the video already there. i am not looking to learn how to CREATE a lower third, just where to place it so it comes on top of the video.

You will need to use PIP (picture in picture). This means that you not put it on the same layer as your video is on, but one underneath or above (depending on your software). I'm not familiar with Sony Vegas, but if you Google 'Sony Vegas PIP' you'll find heaps of tutorials
