I was aware of the Rule of Thirds and the rule about crossing "The Line" however I had not thought of cutting the audio first and following the video. Thanks for the tip!

Hmm, I really like the 45 degree rule, The audio tip is something I actually picked up on my own from making videos! That little experience drips in somewhere!
