I have the Sony HDR-CX730 and I've got to say I haven't found a situation it can't handle in full HD. It has a pro logic microphone and the sound quality is great.
Won't let me post the link but search Amazon, about £870.
Bit pricey but I wouldn't be without it now :up:

I use the Canon Vixia HFM31. Full 1080p, cinematic mode, anti-shake, and lots of HDD space as well as SD memory. It's in the $500-$800 range brand new, and about $150-$300 for a really good used one.

I also would suggest a Targus or a Manfrotto fluid head tripod for smooth pans/tilts and to keep your camera steady.
