Do you register copyright in your videos?

Yes, I know that copyright is acquired as soon s the video is produced. Registering isn't strictly necessary to have the copyrights.

But registering copyright, like with the US Copyright Office, does provide some advantages. Like providing prima facie proof of your ownership, opens the possibility of claiming statutory damages, provides a public record, and more. On the other hand, jut publishing is free, whereas registering costs - as of today I think it's $35US each. (Personally I think it's a bit steep considering that you can register 10 songs at once for $50.)

So - do you?

Moved to the copyright / claims / legal forum. :)

As you say, just creating something automatically grants you the copyright so I don't bother registering it. I try to protect my work as much as possible with branding / watermarks etc and I keep an eye on the copyright / content id tab in Youtube. Registering would be a good thing but it's hard to justify the cost and work to do it. :)

Thanks for the reply. I suspect this is the case with most creators.

Anyone else?

Anyone who does register?
