I'm in the same boat as you, I used to make theme songs and background music and intro songs for free for people and then it suddenly dawned on me like... When I can't afford a happy meal I should not be spending 3 hours making these things for people without asking for some compensation that's just not wise, and it gets you out of the.. you can start forgetting that you have a special skill, and it's valueable, and your time is worth something, and there's nothing wrong with asking to be compensated for your work. It can just be tough sometimes cause you want to help people and be nice but you gotta be nice to yourself too.
