Hey everybody, new to the page here. I travel to random countries lately, and decided to start putting together vlogs about my adventures. I have a question about background focus while outdoors. There are countless pages about "how to blur your background", and "how to make sure your focus only includes you", but I noticed a lot of big name vloggers have their background IN focus. After watching a few of each kind of video, it seems to make sense to have it in focus, I like to see the areas they are walking through as they talk about it. Why are all the suggestions about blurring your background while all the big vloggers are in focus? I started to order the Canon M50 because so many people talk about it, but it seems majority of videos a watched with the M50 have the background blurred. Is this just a setting? Can this be corrected with the M50?
Sorry for the random (and probably stupid) questions, new to the vlog scene and trying to piece the techniques together :thumbsup2:

Blurred background is usually achieved by adjusting the aperture. Blurred background (low depth of field) requires a wide aperture. A wide aperture has a low f/stop number such as f/1.8, f/2.2, f/2.8. So any camera whose aperture you can control manually is capable of controlling whether the background is blurred or not. - Most SLRs and DSLRs can do it. Many automatic compacts can't. :)

Because this advice is focused on people who do sit-down-talk videos, in which you just want the person talking to be in focus. Travel vlogging is different, since the background is really important too.

As Crown said, you will have to adjust some settings. You can basically reverse everything they say in 'how to blur your background' tutorials, since it will give you the opposite effect ;)
